Tropical delight Cambridge, ENGLAND. FUN AND FROLICS were had yesterday evening as an effort went ahead to celebrate, weeks late, Mareike's birthday.

Students from several universities, mostly of Selwyn College, Cambridge, gathered at the Grantchester Meadows to bring the tropics to rural East Anglia with a Hula-Rasta, Hawaii-meets-Jamaica themed party.

The buckets of home-made punch (see recipe below) jollied up proceedings to begin with, while the barbeques were lit and the occasion enjoyed. When hot, the barbeques were filled with delicious meats— marinated beef, pork and apple skewers, sausages, key lime pie, tortillas (with home-made salsa), and, of course, Mareike's Burgers.

GRANTCHESTER MEADOWS

Situated a few minutes' walk from Selwyn College, these lush meadows bring nature and tranquility into the hectic lives of students in the city. With the Cam wending its way by, those more adventurous types can cool their soul with a quick dip. Nature lovers won't be disappointed either, with the meadows playing host to a variety of grass-loving creatures, and these strange jet-black dragonfly-butterfly cross-breeds.

With a brief interlude while a pheasant took us all by surprise, the evening carried on jovially to the delight of all, and as the sun set (after finally making an appearance), reggae drifted out over the serene grassy fields, keeping the mood laid-back and chilled.

The arrival of darkness prompted our departure, tired and content (and a little drunk), laden with the evidence of a good party, leaving the field as if nothing had just occurred.
