Incompetence and delight: the fight HSBC continue to be incompetent- I’ve now filled in the form for a student account SIX EFFING TIMES (or maybe it’s seven, I’ve lost count). They sent me another Maestro card, to replace my old Solo card. My old Solo card was replaced in January when I wangled an upgrade on my account, after they cocked it up by downgrading my Gap Year account to a normal bank account. So now I have two cards, but they don’t know about one of them, and the new one, I have no pin for. Odd. In amongst all that, every time I go into the branch, I have to explain my account to them. None of the HSBC people seem to know anything about the accounts they sell! Except Mr Lilly, he knows what it’s all about.

So, from others’ incompetence to my own. After a lovely (but extremely brief) visit to Koko after Richard’s birthday drinkage (‘twas some good drinkage at the Lock Tavern), and possibly due to the fact I was lost in a little world of my own, I ended up hopping on the nightbus at Euston going in the wrong direction. Doh! This was after missing the last Victoria line tube going south. Luckily, I caught a train pretty much as soon as I got to Kings Cross Thameslink, where I had to assist some Scandinavian ladies in their travel plans. Trundle trundle went the train back to Croydon, and onto another nightbus (this one going in the right direction), filled with alcohol-imbibed Croydon nightbeings, yelling, screaming; horridness- then the silly girl throwing up everywhere and filling the bus with stinking vomit smell, and the bus driver being irate at her. Gah, I want home by this point, but I can’t help but be smiling to myself.

Been revisiting the nineties lately, in particular Pure by the Lightning Seeds (you know the one- “…pure and simple everytime...”). But doesn’t that bass-guitar riff sound familiar, hmm? Yes it does sir! Listen to New Order’s Love Vigilantes and you’ll hear the bass riff is stolen, yes stolen straight from the song, and is identical, almost.

We are also loving Tom Vek’s I Ain’t Saying My Goodbyes, it’s grungey, electro, guitar-laden rock sound is quite divine. On which note, I am quite impatiently awaiting Ladytron’s new offering, which is out soonish. Elbow and BRMC’s latest albums I shall be purr-chasing tomorrow I believe.

Finally, in today’s dose of music news, we are quietly celebrating the Go! Team releasing their jump-with-delight single Bottle Rocket, and even being played on Radio Two for chrissake! The video is available at any self-respecting music-oriented webnetsite, so go looky looky, watch and fall in love with them. Go Go! Team!
